Renée Khatami grew up in Manhattan with a Persian father and New York mother. She studied art at Bard College, and later completed Masters degrees in design (Pratt Institute) and art education (New York University). She worked as a designer/art director specializing in art books, and published two children’s books on learning colors through your senses. Now she is solely focused on her art.
Using defined shapes, transparent color, texture, line, and juxtaposition—materials matter, and awareness of their relation to each other is essential to the work. Decisions are made, but the result is always unexpected. However, the art is a progression that is unique and strong in its delicacy.
